The Fair—In a future where care has replaced capitalism, a young woman named Navika visits a historical fair that recreates the frenzy of consumerism, only to discover through a mystical garden that the most precious commodity—time itself—cannot be bought, but must be cherished.
Project lore: As a creative post-script and commemorative artifact for our virtual LoveFest—which raised over $11,000 in micro-grants for ideas supporting 'A Future in Love'—RADAR and Switch-Lit launched an experiment in collaborative storytelling called 'Platonia.' This project aimed to show what becomes possible when we move beyond narrow conceptions of romantic, commodified love and instead embrace a broader spectrum of platonic connections: love of friends, neighbors, nature, future generations, wisdom, and care.
Strangers were paired with one another in secret and took turns writing the next chapters of a single collaborative story using Switch-Lit's Subrosa platform, resulting in a range of tales (some more successful than others, because . . . experiments). But one in particular struck home for us. Or rather, struck a future in love for us.
Especially, as we consider the month of February and its special ability to commoditize love within culturally imposed limits.
And so, with that, we welcome you into The Fair, written by Lisa Hehnke and Maria Magdalena. Artwork by Domingo B.
All profits will be split between creators. Be our post-Valentine. Your support of this project supports our collective mission to build better futures in multiplayer mode. Love you!
p.s. The edition price point $8.88 symbolizes infinite abundance and prosperity, offering our community members an auspicious gateway to participate at a price point that aligns with ancient wisdom about wealth flowing where attention goes.
LoveFest was the culmination of RADAR's three-month exploration into A Future in Love -- a future where love isn't just the end point of some mythical quest, but the guiding force behind how we live, care for each other, and shape our world. At RADAR, we believe that that future belongs to those who think about it. And that it’s most impactful in multiplayer mode. So thank you for stepping into this vision with us. Maybe a decolonized, decommodified future of love is closer than we think — if only we yearn for it together. So consider this your invitation to imagine something different. The more we practice collective imagination, the more able we’ll be to build the better futures in our collective dreams.
We were dreaming of a way for people to co-create a Future in Love artefact post-LoveFest and the universe connected us with Kenneth and Diane at Switch-Lit. We had thought their platform might help us match penpals, but in fact, the lovechild of our collaboration was destined to be so much more.
